The rail follows the machine structure
Bolting a precision rail to a distorted or poorly prepared surface can force the guide into error and increase internal load. The mounting base needs to support the intended accuracy.
Parallel rails share load only when aligned
Two-rail systems require careful spacing and parallelism. Misalignment can increase friction, reduce load sharing and make the axis feel tight at particular positions.
Use a defined reference strategy
A primary reference shoulder or datum can simplify installation. The exact method depends on the rail, machine structure and accuracy requirement.
Measure before blaming the carriage
If a replacement carriage binds, verify rail condition, contamination, mounting surfaces and alignment before concluding that the new bearing is defective.
