Start from the complete load case
Do not reduce the selection to moving mass. Record vertical and side loads, applied moments, acceleration forces and where each load acts relative to the carriage group.
Separate rail size from carriage format
A nominal rail size does not identify the carriage length, flange style, mounting direction or preload. These details can change the envelope and stiffness.
Document the mounting geometry
Provide rail length, mounting-hole pitch, carriage quantity and center distances. For replacements, a dimensioned sketch is more dependable than a visually similar photo.
Treat contamination as a design input
Chips, dust and process debris influence wiper, seal and lubrication choices. A clean bench and a machining enclosure should not automatically use the same protection strategy.
